Secondary operations

Many products have to go through a number of further steps after the primary production process before they are actually able to fulfill their intended functions. Consider, for example, a plastic intake manifold, which can only be made by welding separate plastic shells together. Or think of laser marking, heat-stacking and the like.

These extra processes should already be included in the design process, because they can influence the way of designing and the compatibility of materials, but also because some processes simply cannot be combined with each other.
